1. Stay on top of your emails.
As a general rule of thumb, try to check your email once in the morning and once in the evening every week day to stay on top of your emails. Delete ones that aren’t important and organize your class-related emails in folders. For emails that require responses, reply as soon as you read them or within 2 days at the latest.
2. Use a planner.
Staying organized and on top of your assignments is essential to being successful in online school. Whether you prefer a physical planner or digital, plan out your assignments for the rest of the semester and make sure to check them frequently. For Zoom classes, set reminders 15 minutes before you need to log on so you don’t forget.
3. Make folders on your desktop to organize your assignments.
Create a folder on your computer desktop for every class, and save your files in the right folder to keep everything organized. Label your saved documents clearly so that you don’t have to search for things.
4. Utilize your resources!
There are a lot of great online resources to provide extra help. For math-based classes, check Khan Academy or look on YouTube for videos related to what you are learning. If there is a class you are really worried about, try Chegg Study as an extra resource. Start an online study group with friends in your classes to share your notes and work through questions.
5. Find where you study best.
Designate an area in your house for school and studying. Whether it’s a desk or your dining room table, make sure the area is clean and free of distractions.
6. Ask for help when you need it.
Just because we are working from home, that doesn’t mean you are on your own. Email your professors, ask them to set up study hours via Zoom, and speak up when you don’t understand something. Your professors are your best resource and they are there to help you!
