I know what you may be thinking right about now, “What did I get myself into?” While you may be super nervous for the hundreds of singing girls, talking to new people, or maybe you just don’t really know what to expect going into recruitment, here are a few pointers that will help you get ready for the ride of a lifetime.

1. Be Yourself.
I know this sounds like a huge cliché, but out of all the pointers it’s the one you should take the most to heart. This is because during recruitment each chapter is meeting a ton of other girls at the same time that they are meeting you. What makes someone stand out is not their new cute snake skin boots, it’s the unique individual that’s wearing them.
2. Dig deep with conversations.
Treat each night of recruitment like it’s a fun ‘job’ interview. When you search for a job, you should be focusing on what the company can do for you, what you can do for the company, the culture of the people within the company, and if you can see yourself growing and being successful within the company. When joining a sorority, your mind set should be parallel with these same values. So, when thinking about what you want out of a chapter, ask the questions and start the conversations that will help you find your perfect home.
3. Make connections with other PNM’s.
This is one of my favorite pointers for many reasons. One reason is because during recruitment, it is a huge misconception that you are only there to get to know the Chapters. In reality, recruitment is a great opportunity to meet and make strong connections with so many other incredible people. Remember, these women are experiencing the same emotions and revelations that you are, so during orientation really take advantage of getting to know the people around you. (They might even be in your future pledge class!)
4. Don’t be afraid to ask questions.
As a PNM, I know you must have a million questions going through your head. Whether it’s about the new member process, philanthropic events, or even just wanting to know if you’ll have enough time to balance this kind of commitment. Don’t be afraid to ask these important questions. You’re about to make some huge decisions regarding your future, so make sure you’re asking the right questions that will aid you in making the best choice.
5. Do prior research on each Philanthropy.
Meeting new people and gaining a new sisterhood is a huge aspect of why a lot of people decide to go through recruitment. But, recruitment is more than just joining an organization for friends. Recruitment is primarily about joining an organization where everyone comes together to raise money for one common purpose. With that being said, go above and beyond and actually do research on each philanthropy before recruitment starts. This will not only show each chapter that you care about their philanthropy, but it will also show each chapter that you are committed to supporting it.
6. Respect The Process.
During the recruitment process everything might not go exactly as you had planned or hoped for and that’s okay! The best part of recruitment is respecting that the process is going to have you end up exactly where you were meant to be. So don’t only respect the recruitment process, but trust it because everything happens for a reason.
7. Remember to have FUN.
Don’t get caught up in overthinking. When you start overthinking yourself, that’s when you will be limiting yourself. If you go through recruitment with the mindset that you are going to have a new and exciting future at the end I promise you it will come true!
